Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay, born August 24, 1972 in Long Beach California. DuVernay was inspired to follow her passion of art by her aunt Denise at the age of a small kid. The aunt who was a night shift nurse, allowed her to study literature for art as well as theatre in daylight. DuVernay fell in love with the film of 1961 West Side Story after her aunt introduced it to DuVernay. DuVernay was able to see through her mother's model of how art could serve as an activist vehicle. DuVernay learned to be socially conscious from her mother. DuVernay's summers spent in Alabama's Selma influence her later on to create a film about the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay was awarded her graduation certificate at Saint Joseph High School, Lakewood California in 1990. She attended University of California Los Angeles for a degree in English and African American Studies. DuVernay began producing for broadcast journalism while she was still in the college. DuVernay was a CBS News intern during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay was tasked to watch and search the home of a particular Jury member. DuVernay was dissatisfied with her journalistic duties and decided to switch over to the public relations industry. DuVernay was hired right after graduating from college as an intern at the studio that was small. The DuVernay Agency is her first agency for public relations. Her agency launched numerous promotions and lifestyle channels, including Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
